December 18, 2024

The fascinating story of the Higford Family (1883–1929) and their connection to Hartsfield Manor is now available to explore in a dedicated display located on the first-floor corridor. This selection of history offers a glimpse into the lives of the Higford family, their wealth, artistic contributions, and societal influence during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Guests at the hotel will have the opportunity to learn about Daniel Higford Burr, the family patriarch, and his eccentric legacy, as well as his wife Julia and their five daughters—Margaret, Lilian, Alice Mary, Katharine, and Sybil Anne—each of whom led extraordinary lives. The display also showcases:

• Hartsfield Manor, the family’s home, with photographs and stories from its time as a bustling estate.
• A tribute to Alice Mary Higford, a celebrated artist and suffragette, including her contributions to Norway’s Eckbo Legacy.
• The family’s ties to notable landmarks, including Aldermaston Court and Auchmacoy House.

This engaging display is a window into a bygone era, capturing the family’s legacy through captivating visuals, documents, and historical context.
